The wedding party

Nick and I headed to Boston last Friday for our friend JP's wedding. It was the first time we have been away from Charlie and the first weekend we have spent together as a couple since before he was born. I was sad to say goodbye, but I was really looking forward to a grown up weekend with Nick and all of our college friends. Plus, I knew Charlie would be in great hands over at Grandma and Grandpa's.

The weather on Friday was horrible and we had heard that flights might be delayed. Nick and I were sure we would be unlucky and get delayed. We were so fortunate that our flight was right on time, and we made it to the hotel in time to relax for a bit before we headed to the rehearsal dinner. We ate great food and caught up with our good friends who had traveled for the wedding as well. After dinner, everyone headed to the local bar for some drinks and dancing. Not wanting to be the party pooper, I dragged my pregnant behind out with everyone else. It's safe to say that I can't hang like I used to. Sure, I shook my booty like the other girls while sipping my water, but at 1:00 am, I had to get out of there.
The next morning was the best. Nick and I LOVE to sleep, and a dark hotel room is the perfect place for that. We slept until 10:30, and it was blissful! After we got up, we decided to hit the town and look for a local restaurant for some good old Boston cooking. Our cab driver recommended a place called Grassfield's, so we decided to head that way. We walked in and quickly realized that we were the only people in the restaurant who did not collect social security checks. We never did figure out why we were the only young people, but after we got our food, we did not care. Lunch was delicious, and it was so nice to have a lazy meal with the hubby. We talked a lot about Charlie and the new baby, but it was just nice to have the chance to have an uninterrupted conversation.

After lunch, we had to start getting ready for JP and Lauren's wedding which was at 4:00. They had a perfect day for their wedding. The weather had been really hot and then rainy all week, but Saturday was gorgeous. The wedding was held in the same church that Lauren's parents had been married in thirty years ago. Once JP and Lauren said, "I do!", we made our way over to the reception at a beautiful antebellum house. The inside of the house was great, but the grounds outside were breathtaking. Again, it was another night filled with dancing and spending quality time with our friends. JP and Lauren had such a wonderful wedding, and Nick and I are so happy that we were able to be a part of their celebration.

Our weekend had been so nice, but by Sunday we were ready to get home and smooch on our baby. Our flight was not until 1:30 pm, so we were able to take our time getting ready to leave. Everything was looking so good until our flight took off. I do not fly a lot, so I still get nervous every time. Sunday, however, I was relaxed and in a good mood. That did not last long. We had turbulence the entire ride. I don't mind a little turbulence, but bumping up and down the whole way home was more than my preggo stomach could handle. Nick was not even phased by it, so I decided to do my deep breathing and attempt to stay calm. The flight would not last much longer, right? Wrong! As we started to descend upon Atlanta, I reassured myself that I was NOT going to throw up on an airplane - no way, no how!!! Suddenly, the plane hit a particularly bad patch of turbulence and jerked quickly upwards. Everyone in the cabin began looking around anxiously. Not a good sign. Then the click of the intercom and the pilot's voice. He said something about a wind advisory and that the airfield was closed. The last thing I heard was that we were low on fuel and would have to land in Augusta if the field did not open soon. Maybe it was nerves, maybe hormones, maybe my churning stomach, but when I heard that I burst into tears. Poor Nick did not know what to do with the sobbing mess next to him, and I am pretty sure the guy to my left was a little taken aback as well. I just lost it! Thank goodness nature was on our side, and and hour later we were safely on the ground in Atlanta. It is the first time I have ever been on a flight where everyone broke out in a round of applause as soon as the wheels hit the ground. I think I will need a good long while before I fly again.
Once we collected ourselves, we made our way to my parents' house to pick up Charlie. He looked a little shocked to see us, and it took him a while to come to me. On the ride home, he just kept grinning at me. It was great to get away but even better to see his smiling face again!
